Sourcing

Every figure we publish carries its source. Rates come from named surveys and published rate cards; royalty and contract norms are referenced to model contracts and author-body guidance; advance data is drawn from the public record. Where reliable public data does not exist — advances by genre are the clearest example — we say “insufficient public data” rather than estimate. We never invent a number to fill a cell.

Dating and review

Reference tables show a last updated date and are reviewed at least annually. Articles show published and, where relevant, updated dates. Guides carry a last-reviewed date and a review cycle.

Independence

We take no affiliate revenue, referral fee or payment from any publishing service we assess. That is what makes the cost tables worth reading. The full policy is on the disclosure page.

Writing and fact-checking

Articles and guides are drafted with AI assistance and then edited and fact-checked by people against their cited sources before publication. No figure is published on an AI’s say-so. The full detail is on the AI policy page.

Corrections

We correct errors openly and log them publicly. If you can show a figure is wrong or out of date, tell us.
